1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL “Pagoda“

In 1963 Mercedes-Benz introduced the 'Pagoda' at the Geneva Automobile Salon. The car was nicknamed 'Pagoda“ because of its slightly inward-bulged hardtop, which was available as extra feature. A total of 48,912 vehicles in different variants were built. From the beginning on Mercedes positioned the 280 SL as a comfortable touring sports car. With a new engine, more cubic capacity and 170 hp, the 280SL was the top model in this type series. A total of 23,885 units of this variant rolled off the belt in Sindelfingen between 1967 and 1971.
This 280 'Pagoda' model was built in the elegant color combination black/dark gray in 1971. The car was first registered on 1st January, 1970. The car is in an overall good condition, both as far as look and technology are concerned. Accordingly, it got a new German test certificate in May this year without any deficits detected. This model does not have the optional hardtop, instead it has a new high class rooftop.
This car is insured through Auctionata AG and its insurance partner BELMOT for up to six weeks after the auction with a convenient all risks insurance that covers cases such as engine and/or transmission failure or accidental damages. This specific insurance cover is valid for Germany, Austria and Switzerland and may be continued by the buyer after the insurance period has expired at special conditions. The BELMOT all risks insurance excludes: a) indirect and direct damages due to the normal aging process (especially rust, corrosion, oxidation) or natural wear and tear, i. e. due to a natural wear during the drive mode, on car parts which have to be replaced repeatedly during the lifetime of the vehicle; b) indirect and direct damages based on thermal problems, especially due to high temperatures, insufficient cooling while driving or overheating.
The vehicle has to be paid and collected within 3 business days after the auction. The collection may be made via collection by the costumer or via collection by a transport company. A timely collection can also made via a commissioning of Auctionata to a fee-based transport (flat shipping rate). If the time period lapses without a result, the buyer has to pay storage costs in the amount of 25, - € per day.
General notification: According to A. 1.2 in our general terms and conditions cars auctioned by Auctionata are goods on consignment which Auctionata has been provided with by consignors. Auctionata does not assume liability for hidden defects that have not been ascertained in the course of assessment. This liability exclusion is not effective in case of gross negligence and intention on the part of Auctionata.
